The Department of Textile Engineering and Fashion Design at the World University of Bangladesh (WUB) is directly contributing to national policy objectives by executing a government-commissioned research project under the Special Research Grant Program 2024-2025 of the Ministry of Science & Technology (MOST), Bangladesh. The successful completion of the project, "Development and Characterization of Locally Available Natural Fiber Reinforced Polypropylene (PP) Matrix Based Partially Degradable Composites for Civil Construction," demonstrates the university's active role in generating evidence-based solutions for sustainable development.

This research, led by Md. Mostafizur Rahman and Mohammad Bellal Hoque, aligns directly with national and global policies aimed at ending poverty in all its dimensions. By developing affordable, eco-friendly construction materials from local resources, the project supports:

  • Economic Dimensions: Creating new market opportunities for local agriculture and reducing reliance on imported materials, thereby fostering local entrepreneurship and job creation.

  • Environmental Dimensions: Promoting sustainable consumption and production, a key target of the UN's Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which helps combat environmental degradation that disproportionately affects the poor.

  • Social Dimensions: Pioneering access to low-cost, sustainable building materials, which can inform national housing and infrastructure policies to improve living conditions.

As a body, WUB participates in national policy-making by providing MOST with critical data and innovative technologies. This work positions the university as a key actor in implementing Bangladesh's science and technology agenda to build a green economy, directly supporting policies that address the interconnected challenges of poverty, environmental sustainability, and inclusive industrial growth.
