Apparel Engineering Lab

Master garment construction — from pattern making and marker planning to sewing, SMV calculation, and quality inspection aligned with global standards.

Apparel Engineering Lab

By the end of this lab course, students will be able to:

  • Identify Apparel Machinery & Tools
    • Recognize the functions of different sewing machines, cutting machines, pressing equipment, and finishing tools.
    • Demonstrate safe handling and maintenance practices.
  • Apply Pattern Making & Marker Planning
    • Prepare basic garment patterns and grading.
    • Develop marker plans for fabric utilization and waste reduction.
  • Perform Cutting & Sewing Operations
    • Carry out fabric spreading, cutting, and sewing operations.
    • Practice seam types, stitch classifications, and garment assembly techniques.
  • Conduct Garment Calculations
    • Calculate fabric consumption, SMV (Standard Minute Value), and machine requirements.
    • Estimate production efficiency and cost parameters.
  • Evaluate Garment Quality
    • Inspect garments for seam strength, stitch density, defects, and overall finish.
    • Apply international quality standards for apparel testing.
  • Develop Practical & Industrial Skills
    • Troubleshoot common sewing and assembly problems.
    • Relate lab-scale garment production to industrial workflow and production systems.
